RIP Melanurus :(

My tailspot wrasse died last night. We'd been away on holidays for a week and my tanksitter noticed it on Thurday and tried to remove him to a QT on Friday with no luck. By the time I got home Saturday both eyes were severely swollen (popeye) and he was pretty listless. I figured he was a goner but decided to treat with maracyn and put him in a QT tank. I'm not sure whether it was the QT or whether it was just inevitable but this morning he was gone. I'm pretty bummed about that.

In other news, my tank is rampant with a green slimy version of cyano. Well the green part anyways, all cyano seems to be slimy. I did a 25% waterchange yesterday and siphoned most of it out and guess what? Its back again. Woo, shocker! Anyway, I'm dosing the tank with erythromycin. Screw it, I've done it before, might as well do it again, I don't have to deal with any sandbed issues. Hopefully it works against this green crap which blankets most of the tank bottom as well as the lower rocks. I also found some hair algae in the back forty growing on the glass so I'm wondering if phosphates are high as I switched to a new frozen mysis. Its supposed to be competition for Piscine Energetics (same nutritional info and fished from the same source) but I have a feeling it needs to be rinsed. I should have been doing that all along. I think I'm also only going to feed every second day, for awhile anyways.
