Well I think I've just about gotten all the frags I wanted replaced (of those that I actually could replace). I found another one of my old faves at OA (originally this one, no pics of the new one as I totally forgot). I was looking at some old pics today while searching for the above one and found a few that made me kind of sad. This one perished in the heat wave, it was one of my all time favorites and the photo really doesn't do it justice as it was a funky lime green with purple tips. I don't know if I'll ever find another piece of it as I'd never seen it before and can't remember where I got it. Oh well.
The rest of the tank is doing well, the algae is still gone which is encouraging. I see I have the occasional bit of cyano in there so I suppose I'll have to change up the flow to account for supposed growth. It kind of surprises me that stuff is actually growing as I've had a hellish time trying to get the calcium and alkalinity up with this new reactor. I guess you really don't have to have perfect parameters to get half decent results. And really, lets face it, at this point half decent is good enough for me.
Hmm what else. Oh the nano. So I'm still on the fence sorta about keeping this thing running. It was pretty depressing to lose about 90% of the stuff that was in there. The appearance of a few brittle stars and bristleworms was encouraging so I decided to powerwash the rock to once again see if I could get rid of the caulerpa. If only there were a pint sized fish that loved this stuff. Maybe if I got a really tiny tang and didn't tell anyone....kidding. Anyway, the rock is pretty clean and I even had a go at the damned hydroids that were on there. They got the full power spray. No doubt they just retreated into the rock where I couldnt' see them and they'll be out in full display when I get home next weekend.
Ok on to some pics :)
The incredible Purple Monster - heh, see that tiny little brown blob on that rock? Yeah thats it. Its like a mini frag. But really who can complain? I have a purple monster! Nyah, nyah, nyah.....yeah I know, hard to get too excited about a brown blob. Just you wait though!!
Teal Acro
Yellow Acro
Yellow Porites, Couple Acros
Purple Cross
Purple Tenuis
Green Slimer
Green with Blue Tips Acro - I'm pretty happy with this one these days, its really coloring up nicely as I've moved it from where it was sort of being shaded out by the wavebox to a different spot where one of my casualties bit it.
Blue Tort - This one browned out pretty badly but its coming back. At least it survived :)
Yellow Acro - Not sure, I thought this might be a gemmifera but I guess we'll have to wait and see, its pretty small for an ID yet
Couple Acros
Purple Tip Acro and Mushrooms - ya I know, wtf with mushrooms in an SPS tank. Well they came in with a bunch of ricordeas and they were kind of pinchy faced and looked like rics at the time. I put them in the main tank as I didn't have much room in the nano and thought they could use the extra light. Good thing as...well we all know the nano story. Kaput!
Tri Color Acro - This one is actually becoming quite spectacular looking and really starting to purple up. Pretty striking with the green polyps. I haven't quite gotten the hang of the new camera yet and colors but hopefully I can get that figured out soon.
