The clam didn't make it. I think there was just too much damage from the hermit crab, and although it was still responsive it just faded into the sunset. I was pretty upset about that.

As for the purple cap, well I managed to stop the jelly. I think it was brown jelly actually. I've never seen it before, nor have I ever seen any photos of it in action but it was sort of brownish. I ended up giving it an iodine dip. Not lugols, because of course in this godforsaken town, nobody has even heard of that stuff..especially at 7pm. I just used Tincture of Iodine, 2.5%, about 15 drops per liter. It took three dips to stop the stuff, which seemed a bit much. I suppose I could have gone a little stronger with the iodine but I didn't really find a lot of information on anything other than lugols. The first two nights I did a 20 minute dip and the third night I, uh, sort of forgot about it and left it for 60 minutes. It seemed to do the trick though. I had fragged off a piece the first day I noticed the big white swath down the middle of the coral. It didn't develop any problems at all. Weird. I'm sure now the white part will cultivate all sorts of heinous algae. I'm soo looking forward to that...

Other than that, all is relatively well in reef tank land. I hauled out some caulerpa bits tonight, reminiscent of my 3 hour caulerpa pulling missions I used to do. This one was a whole 15 minutes :) I seem to have developed a rather unsightly cyano problem though. Its definitely not flow as the stuff is just barely clinging to the rock. I did cut back on feeding but I've done comparisons with other tank owners and have decided I don't really feed all that much. Who knows? I've never had this algae before so I guess its the latest battle to be fought.
