So my crocea was gaping a little, I read that croceas gape a little more than other clams so I kept my eye on it. I also found a thread on Reefcentral that mentioned that clams sometimes gape due to stress and that the adductor muscle sometimes sags a bit resulting in the gaping, so they suggested tying the clam closed so that the adductor muscle wasn't so stretched out. So I figured I'd try it, I wasn't sure though, I didn't find the thread until the 3rd day after I put the clam in my tank. So here it is all tied up. Things were going swimmingly, as you can see in the pic, the mantle was extended and things were looking good.
Then an evil heinous hermit crab toppled it over and had a snack through the hole in the bottom of the clam.
I'm not sure what parts are left but I just couldn't bring myself to throw the clam out. I'm sure its buggering up the rest of my tank no doubt (with my luck). Its hanging in there but I dunno, I guess we'll see. I'm pretty bummed out about the whole thing.
Although it does confirm my previous thoughts on hermits and their evilness. Two have been relegated to the sump already and I'm searching out the other 3.
Oh and my big purple cap is having some sort of issues. There is a clear jelly making its way across the top and underside leaving a swath of white in its path. I haven't figured out what it is yet or how to stop it. So far, carbon, water changes and manual removal haven't done a bloody thing.
Waah!
