Fun with Chemistry

New tank photo!

Yeah I know, still with the frag racks. I'm hoping my friend will weld me up a light rack soon so I can get everything transferred over to the new tank. In the meantime, I've just been amassing frags.

So I have to laugh. All this time I thought my nitrates were high, I think I've mentioned it before (or thought I had mentioned it). I had "high" nitrates the whole time I was using zeovit, about 25ppm or so. I've tried and tried to get them down but finally figured screw it, the tank looks fine so no harm no foul. Turns out it was my test kit, or rather how I was doing the test. The salifert test kits come with a different looking vial, its not a cylindrical one that all the other test kits come with. It has a larger bottom on it and is square shaped. So when you put one millilitre of water in there its really only about 4mm depth. In the cylindrical vial, its considerably deeper. So usually when Iget a new test kit, I run the test, clean the vial and then put it in the "vial drawer" where they all get mixed up. The square vial got pushed to the back and I've been using a cylindrical one which reads 25ppm. The square vial reads 2.5ppm. Now I put the square vial back in the nitrate test kit where it belongs ;)
