Interesting. I was sure I had done a post christmas update. Either I did and deleted it or perhaps it was all in my head. Who knows?
Anyhoo, Happy New Year to All!
Well, whats new. Hmm, let me see, oh I have dinoflagellates still. I know I know, you are all gasping in amazement. Dinoflagellates you say?? Whatever next??
They were gone after Christmas, most likely due to the sporadic feeding of my tank as I attempted to have some sort of holiday away from the tank and nobody was around to feed. Don't worry, they got fed every second or third day. It was kind of nice to return to the tank and see that it was looking half decent for a change. Like its little Christmas gift to me, which lasted about oh, 3-4 days.
Oh well, at least I have it figured out now: the dinos are definitely related to my feeding habits, which I might add, aren't extreme. I normally only feed once a day ( I know I should feed more for the health of my fish but.. ALGAE!!) but its usually flake and most likely phosphate loaded flake with my luck. I bought some rowaphos and put it on the tank but to no avail. Its probably already spent! Why does food have to have phosphate in it anyways? What does it do for fish besides grow algae?? I'm going to switch back to frozen food and rinse it before I put it in the tank but really, what do the dinoflagellates have left to harm?? Other than the fact that they look ugly, I don't really care anymore. I hardly spend any time with the tank anyway and when I do, I try to just look at the fish and nothing else. Its amazing how this hobby can be so exciting/rewarding and then totally suck. Good thing it doesn't happen at the same time or they'd cancel each other out I guess ;) Anyway, I really hope for some "exciting/rewarding" bits this year instead of the "totally suck" part I got for most of last year.
