The holidays have come and gone with no major mishaps (thank God!). Except for the impeller on one of my Tunze 6060's packing it in, everyone survived the holidays and my vacation quite nicely. The big tank is looking better than ever, probably in part due to my lack of fiddling with it. I did do a big tank clean before I went on holidays, cleaned all the pumps, powerheads, overflow chamber, sump etc. Thats when I discovered the broken impeller. I tried supergluing it back together but it doesn't really do much, it just turns really slowly and likely is frying the motor. No worries cuz I'm getting a WAVEBOX soon! Wooty! I can't wait to try it out!

I've also been experimenting with ozone again. This time with a ORP monitor and I bought an air dryer as I suspected the air might be a bit too moist for the ozonizer to deal with. Sure enough, its much more efficient with the air dryer, and I can't believe how quickly the air dryer beads change color (due to becoming moist). I've only had it running for about 2-3 weeks and I've already had to recharge the beads (which is so easy!). Anyway, my ORP is running at about 410 now. The water is crazy clear. I'm pretty impressed actually.

So I finally ditched my refugium. Quite frankly it was a disgusting mess and I had taken it offline from the main tank ages ago. Plus, I hated the damned thing, it was so scuzzy looking. I have too many tanks anyways, and my need to have them "nice looking" kind of wars with the whole refugium idea. After all the problems I had with it and how disgusting it was I actually found a little boxer crab left in it. I put him in the nano but haven't seen him since. Not sure how he'll fare in a tank with decent conditions compared to that crappy refugium.

The nano is chugging along. I've lost a few zoo colonies due to whatever. I'm not sure if its bristleworms or what the heck is going on in there but I've added a couple of cleaner shrimp to try to keep the bristleworm population down. I'm not sure if it will work or not. I haven't managed to get any decent pics of it lately as the algae on the acrylic in there is just gross and it makes the tank look so dark. The little mag float I have to keep the acrylic clean just isn't cutting it so I guess I'll have to find something stronger or more efficient. The credit card idea didn't work either. It just makes a mess.

One of my New Years resolutions is to keep this blog a bit more up to date, as I've been working out of town lately, I've kind of fallen off with the photo sessions and updates as well as spending very much time with the tank (which seems to be a good thing :P). I've never been all that great at keeping New Years resolutions but we'll see how it goes ;)
