I went shopping today, got some more snails and some hermit crabs, which I suspect are just tender snacks for my wrasse. I found a few spare shells hanging around the front of the tank and either there are some bare butt hermits crawling around without shells or they were eaten. I saw one cowering under a pile of zoos earlier tonight and haven't spotted any of the new ones so maybe they're just hiding in there somewhere.
I finally think I've found a mate for Bug, my bangaii cardinalfish. I think Bug is a female although its darned hard to tell with her jaw deformity. She has a very rounded body though so we'll see. I think I've picked out a male for her. Its a juvenile and about 1/3 her size. So far I'm calling him Junior Mint. Bug Junior just sounded stupid and I keep thinking Mint, every time I think Junior. I suppose some would call that stupid as well ;)
Eeeeyah, so back to the new fish. Well Bug ain't the brightest fish and mostly ignored/didn't see JM for the first while. Bug is sort of in her own little world most of the time. Eventually she noticed JM and there was hell to pay. I'm a bit worried that maybe Bug is a boy and so is JM. But tonight after lights out I caught them sleeping together!!! I would have taken pics but that seems a bit perverted. Haha just kidding. They're sleeping under my giant finger leather coral and its really hard to get a pic. Hopefully she isn't eating the poor little bastard or something. I sort of suspect that neither of them can see too well in the dark and don't know who each other are, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I really hope they pair up. If not I hear one will kill the other if they're both boys. Oh goody.
Well I figured I'd try this out because I'm getting a new tank in the next few weeks. Its another 90 gallon with eurobracing. I'm just so sick of both the centerbrace and all the scratches. So I'll be fishing the new bangaii out if I have to then (although he ain't too bright either, took all of 2 seconds to net him at the store) and take him back to the store if needed.
I don't know if I mentioned before that I have a mystery clam nipper. Well I guess it isn't much of a mystery :P Its the eyelash blenny. A friend of mine is nursing the clams back to health and apparently they're doing pretty well there and don't want to come home according to my friend. Sure sure I say. Get yer own clams!! So the blenny will be moving on when I do the tank switch as well. I was also thinking of moving the regal out of the tank as she is already at 4 inches and I don't want her getting too big in the tank (tang police :P) but apparently she isn't growing all that fast so I think I'll keep her for another year or so. Might as well get this all figured out for the tank switch because its so hard to catch them with all those SPS in the tank, the net gets caught on them (not to mention my hands bashing about knocking things over and fragging various corals).
So there should be another update soon on the big tank switch :D
